Stay in RGGI

It is highly irresponsible to withdraw the State of Virginia from the RGGI. As a state with a large and growing economy, we must take a lead in regional initiatives such as the RGGI that both secure our place in a more secure and economically sound future. We cannot ignore the impact of climate change, nor can we push back the progress of innovation that will allow us to improve life for Virginians, while filling state coffers, and also protecting our children and future generations.

If we withdraw from the RGGI due to political talking points, we cede the jobs, education,  investments, and security that staying in the RGGI promote. Those benefits will accrue to our neighbors, which will lead to brain drain and capital flight away from Virginia.

If we withdraw from the RGGI due to a desire to resist change and protect failing industries, we spit in the face of capitalism and centuries of experience that show us this path leads to failure. We fail to take advantage of the federal infrastructure investments that will drive Virginia forward.

Conservative, moderate, or liberal, we all want Virginia to have consistently well paying jobs, low cost energy, freedom from foreign control due to energy reliance, and security for our property and children's futures. The RGGI provides for this long-term. Withdrawing from the RGGI provides for this only in the very short-term. Given our limited lifespans, isn't it better to ensure future generations have at least a good life as we do?
