Pet stores need more oversight

I was absolutely shocked to learn that animal shelters are held to a much higher standard than pet stores that sell animals for a profit and source their animals from large horrific puppy mills which are often virtually unregulated. Why are pet stores even still allowed to sell dogs and cats when the shelters are absolutely overflowing with them? The millions of dogs and cats euthanized in shelters per year die waiting for homes that just aren't there, meanwhile pet stores and puppy mills pump out puppy after puppy. Please ban pet stores from selling dogs and cats and only allow them to adopt out dogs and cats from shelters. Please also enact laws that would put puppy mills out of business! At the very least, please hold puppy mills and pet stores to the same standard that everyone else is held to.
