Standards of Care for Puppies and Kittens in Pet Stores

Hi, I support most of the VDACS pet store regulation changes, but there's something really important that we need to get a handle on.  Because pet shops sell animals, they have to be held to the same standards as animal shelters - civil penalties for regulatory violations must be in place to ensure compliance. First hand, working in the animal shelters & vets' offices in Hampton Roads, I have personally handled numerous complaints each year of parvo puppies (entire litters sold sick from pet stores, leading to death or at best extreme bills), and pet store owners who do not care whatsoever about animals' health, the cleanliness of their cages or what medicine they need. The only way the will follow the law is if it impacts their bottom line. Please, please help the animals and increase civil penalties = aka accountability for pet stores. No more sick puppies need to die. No more families hearts need to be broken.
