12VAC5-613-90. Performance requirements; ground water protection. Paragraph D.1.a.

Proposed change below.  Proposed changes list methods that have been demonstrated to significantly reduce TN.  This will allow homeowners more cost effective systems while achieving water quality targets.

D. The following additional nutrient requirements apply to all AOSSs in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed:

1. All small AOSSs shall provide a 50% reduction of TN as compared to a conventional gravity drainfield system; compliance with this subdivision may be demonstrated through the following:

a. Compliance with one of best management practices listed below:

1.  TL-3 effluent combined with effluent dispersal in shallow trenches, shallow in-ground and mounded pads, mounds, or drip irrigation;

2.  TL-3 effluent and upflow filtration;

3.  TL-3 effluent and carbon dosing/anoxic reactor;

4.  TL-2 or TL-3 effluent and constructed wetlands;

5.  Certification to NSF/ANSI 245-2007; or
