12VAC5-613-70. General approval testing and evaluation.

Proposed change:

2. The manufacturer shall provide the division with quarterly results of influent and effluent samples measuring, at a minimum, BOD and TSS for each installed treatment unit.  In addition to BOD and TSS results, treatment units of small AOSSs that meet TL-3 shall provide the division with quarterly results of influent and effluent samples measuring fecal coliform.

Justification:  BOD and TSS will have an impact on field sizing parameters.  With reduced vertical separation and smaller drainfields, it is imperative to ensure protection of water resources.  Requiring the additional parameter of fecal coliform will ensure that treatment units are capable of performing at a high enough level to be protective of water resources, especially with little vertical separation.

Add new paragraph 5.:

5.  A manufacturer that provides evidence of completion of NSF/ANSI 360-2010 for treatment units of small AOSSs are exempt from paragraphs 1-4 if the influent and effluent sample results meet the TL-2 or TL-3 standard.
