Purpose of the meeting
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host the Third Community Engagement Meeting for the TMDL Study for Benthic Aquatic Life Impairments on Deep Run, Dover Creek, and Upham Brook Watersheds in Henrico County, Goochland County and the City of Richmond on February 21, 2025. The meeting is open to the public and any member of the public may participate in the proceedings. Meeting participants will assist in development of a cleanup study, also known as a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL), to address benthic impairments on Deep Run, Dover Creek, Jordans Branch, North Run, Stony Run, Stony Run UT, and Upham Brook which have been listed on Virginia’s §303(d) list of impaired waters for failing to meet Virginia’s water quality standards due to an altered benthic community. TMDLs will be developed for sediment and total phosphorus which were identified as probable contributors to the poor health of the stream segment. This meeting will discuss the watershed allocation loads for sediment and phosphorus to address benthic aquatic life impairments in the study. Information about this TMDL study is located on the DEQ website at https://www.deq.virginia.gov/our-programs/water/water-quality/tmdl-development/tmdls-under-development .
