| Purpose of the meeting PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host the Second Community Engagement meeting for the Greendale Creek and Unnamed Tributary to Fleenor Branch TMDLs on Tuesday August 13, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public and any member of the public may participate in the proceedings. Meeting participants will assist in development of a cleanup study, also known as TMDLs, to address benthic impairments for both creeks. These two streams have been listed on Virginia’s § 303(d) list of impaired waters for failing to meet Virginia’s water quality standards due to an altered benthic macroinvertebrate community. TMDLs will be developed for sediment, which was identified as a most probable contributor to the poor health of the stream segments. A phosphorus TMDL will also be developed for the Unnamed Tributary to Fleenor Branch since phosphorus was also identified as a most probable stressor to aquatic life. The meeting will discuss the process used to establish sediment and phosphorus loads and discuss a series of preliminary sediment and phosphorus load allocation scenarios.
