Title Model Policy to Address Bullying in Virginia’s Schools
Document ID School Safety
Summary The 2013 Virginia General Assembly amended the Code of Virginia to provide a definition of “bullying” and to require that “Each school board shall implement, by July 1, 2014, policies and procedures to educate school board employees about bullying, as defined in § 22.1-276.01, and the need to create a bully-free environment.” Further, legislation requires "that the Board of Education develop, by January 1, 2014, model policies and procedures for use by each school board to educate school board employees about bullying, as defined in § 22.1-276.01, and the need to create a bully-free environment.” The Board’s policy presents effective strategies and practices to prevent and to address bullying, to intervene with those who bully, and to respond to the victims of bullying behavior.
