Comment Supporting Written Permit Disclosure Requirements

I support the general direction of this petition. One area that may deserve additional emphasis is enforcement and documentation. A simple standardized written disclosure signed before work begins could help reduce misunderstandings later and create a clearer record for both homeowners and contractors.

The disclosure could include:

  • Whether a permit is required
  • Who is responsible for obtaining it
  • Whether permit and inspection costs are included in the contract price
  • Notice that unpermitted work may create issues involving inspections, insurance claims, resale disclosures, or code compliance

A straightforward one-page form could help protect both parties while improving consistency across residential projects. It would also provide a practical way to confirm that permit responsibility was discussed at the beginning of the project rather than after problems arise.

I support the petition. Most small scale repair jobs should not require permit application in the first place. It should require licensed contractors that are aware of current code and carry liability insurance. This will prevent unnecessary time delays on repairs and related permit fees
