This Law and Regulation is needed to ensure that competent personnel are doing the NFPA #25 Inspection on fire Sprinkler Systems as required by the Virginia Fire Code.

The Virginia General Assembly and Governor Northam have supported this Law to protect the Citizens and Property In the Commonwealth of Virginia.

This law will save the lives of the Virginia community & first responders!! Fire protection systems MUST work when called upon or people can die. Virginia was the only state in the mid-atlantic that allowed non-certified people to inspect these life saving systems for conformance with the national requirements (National Fire Protection Association standard  #25). 

I am in favor of this law!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This regulation will go a long way in insuring that only competent individuals will be performing the inspections of fire sprinkler systems in the State of Virginia. Hard work has been done to promote the installation of fire sprinkler systems to help save lives and property.

A loss of property or life due to the failure of a fire sprinkler system not being properly maintained, whether malicious or not, could result in erasing the efforts established by many fire sprinkler entities, professional organizations and state and local fire officials.

This law is not to put undue or extra regulation on Virginia contractors or inspection individuals, however, it is to promote and provide accurate service to already in place fire sprinkler systems protecting our state facilities. A trained and licensed inspection technician, using NICET certifications, will make sure that all existing fire sprinkler systems are in good working order, and will activate when needed, based on the intent of the NFPA-25 manual. 

Myself and Eagle Fire Inc. completely support this Law and new Tradesman Regulations as it pertains to SB1774.

In order to comply with the Statewide Fire Prevention Code, fire sprinkler systems are required to be inspected and tested at certain intervals. These inspections and tests are to be conducted by qualified individuals. Virginia currently does not have a standard definition for qualified. This leads consumers to have to make a guess as to what a qualified individual is. What building owner wants to have to make a guess about something as important as their fire protection systems?

For this reason I support the licensing of Inspection Contractors under SB1774.

I completely support this new VA State Licensing regulation to ensure competent persons are inspecting fire sprinkler systems.  Fire sprinkler systems that are properly inspected by qualified inspectors are extremely effective in saving lives and minimizing property damage during a fire occurrence.  This new regulations will definitely benefit all citizens of Virginia and help keep us safe.

I support this new Law and Regulation. As a Retired Chesapeake Firefighter/Fire Marshal and currently working in the private sector of fire protection, I firmly believe this will ensure that the life safety systems currently installed will be inspected by competent personnel in accordance with the NFPA 25 Standard. One step forward in the protection of the citizens of Virginia.

Fire sprinkler systems that protect Virginia resident citizens, property owners, and visitors of public assemblies should be regularly inspected by trained and certified professionals.  Without this regulation the untrained and inexperienced could inspect and pass inadequate  fire sprinkler systems. I fully support this regulation.
