Please consider including degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology for the QMHP credential. Social Work and Criminal Justice degrees provide a basic understanding of the challenges induvial with mental health disorders face. These staff are vital to the success of the workforce.
I believe that the degree fields of Sociology and Criminal Justice should be included in the degrees eligible for a QMHP. Without these graduates in our field we would be doing a disservice to our clients/consumers. They provide valuable input and understanding of the issues that our clients often face. Having an undergraduate degree in Sociology helped guide me to a successful clinician and social worker. Thank you for considering.
Please consider the addition of sociology and criminal justice to the list of recognized human services field degrees. At a time of workforce shortages, we should be looking for ways to expand the hiring pool. This has prevented the consideration of some applicants.
Request to include Sociology and Criminal Justice degrees as allowable degrees for QMHP certification.
Both Sociology and Criminal Justice degrees provide foundational knowledge in areas directly relevant to mental health service provision.
These disciplines train to assess, engage with, and support individuals with behavioral, psychological, and socio-legal challenges; skills that directly align with the scope of QMHP responsibilities.
There are times when there is an intersection with the criminal justice system and community-based services; including these degrees can expand the workforce knowledge base to best support our community. Also considering the number of forensic admissions to the state hospitals, allowing sociology and criminal justice may offer perspectives that can positively influence individual circumstances as well as the system as a whole.
Including these degrees can expand the pool of qualified professionals.
