According to the Mayo Clinic website, "Gender dysphoria is a diagnosis listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), a manual published by the American Psychiatric Association to diagnose mental conditions." Of course, no one should be bullied for any reason in our schools! But attempts to "normalize" the idea that children can "change" their biological sex, should not be promoted in our schools. Many "transgendered" young people now strongly regret their decision to undergo "transition." https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7541679/Hundreds-youths-gender-surgery-wish-hadnt-says-head-advocacy-network.html. I hate to think of the lawsuits that will ensue after minors in particular are given sex-change hormones behind the backs of their parents, just as they can legally obtain birth control, IUDs, "morning after" pills and abortions without parental consent. How can any well-meaning adult think that an 8-year-old (let alone teens in their tumultuous years) has the mental capacity to "change" their sex? There is an old saying that God always forgives, man sometimes forgives, nature never forgives. It seems that we are forgetting the value of living in harmony with "Mother Nature," even though so many give lip-service to that idea! Many decry pollution of our air and water resources with chemical pollutants but ignore polluting our bodies with cancer-causing chemicals, hormones and dangerous surgeries which sometimes cause death. Shockingly, the VDOE guidance document states, "Regardless of the circumstances, the school should support the student's need for privacy and not disclose a student's gender identity to other students or parents." Really? And since young men and boys who "identify" as females will use women's showers, bathrooms and even hotel rooms during school travels, the right of privacy for the great majority of women and girls will be ignored while making sexual assaults much easier. Women's sports will also effectively end. Just as Anorexic students with a distorted body image should be helped to see reality, so too should students with Gender Dysphoria be guided and helped to "follow the science," see reality and appreciate that biological sex is determined by DNA and chromosomes.
