Working in the field of early childhood education for 50 plus years, I have observed that children often become aware of their place on the gender identity continuum first as preschoolers and then carry their awareness forward into their teens and adulthood. Given this is true, and given that young people who do not understand this process may have questions, may bully or distain transgender individuals, or may become confused; adult guidance is needed. The adults responsible for the education and care of all of these children deserve good information in order to support them all-- both transgender and non, and from preschoolers to 12th graders.
