To whom it may concern,
I am a graduate (2012) of James Monroe High School. I strongly oppose this policy. What if a boy claims to be a girl in order to have access to the girls bathroom/ locker rooms for his own sexual pleasure? What if a child does not want their parent to know they are a transgender, and ends up telling a teacher, and then harms themselves, or even commits suicide? Are their parents going to know then? This policy does nothing but undermines parents and their rights to guide and raise their children. It is a prime example of government overreach for the sake of control. As a school teacher myself, I cannot believe how many potential liabilities can come from this for your public schools. I also am dumbfounded in how it claims to put kids first. Gender Dysphoria is a serious mental health problem in our society today. This policy would only encourage a mental disorder in our youth, when they already have a lot of pressure and things to work through as being a teenager. If you really want to make an inclusive environment, then coming up with a mental health plan to help kids through the pain and suffering they already have with this disorder, would be a start. If you implement this policy you are going to lose a lot of people from the public schools. Many people have already left Fair Fax County public schools, Do you want more losses?
