Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

i fully support this as a student!!

i’m currently a sophomore in high school, and i 10000% support this. by doing this, trans kids will be much more comfortable at school than they are right now. as a friend of several transgender and non-binary students, i want them to be the most comfortable and accepted at school as they can be. the fact that these policies don’t already exist in 2021 is just unfair and disgusting. many people have been commenting about how it’s “weird” and “against science,” which is completely untrue. there is a big difference between SEX and GENDER. sex is female, male, and intersex. gender is a social construct. these people believing that there’s only two genders need to go back to biology class. everyone who is opposing these policies are transphobic scum of the earth who need to stop being ignorant and actually learn to be a decent human being. many people opposing this policy have also been writing their name in as “anonymous,” and it just shows how cowardly they are. these people have also been commenting on how “this will confuse kids,” but these policies would in fact normalize it, and help them better understand transgender people. i have never once felt uncomfortable around someone who’s transgender or gender non-conforming, so i’d have absolutely 0 issue with a transgender girl using the same bathroom as me, and i fully support all of these policies.
