Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Dangerous Policies

These are very dangerous policies for Virginia's children, parents, and teachers.  It does not make sense to enact these rules for a VERY small minority of children who identify as transgender.  Consider all of the problems caused by allowing biological boys to compete against biological girls in sports.  This has robbed these young women of opportunities and awards.  This is a slippery slope which Virginia should not go down.  No one can even imagine all of the complications that will arise.  Staff and students would be subject to "disciplinary action" and perhaps legal suits if they don't use the "correct pronouns".  Schools will be allowed to advise children to move forward with irreversible hormone treatments and surgeries, without the parents' knowledge.  Unfortunately the popularity of transgenderism is spreading and many young people are making irreversible life decisions that will affect their future health, happiness, and well-being.  We should not encourage this.  And these policies would allow persecution of students and parents who believe that God created male and female, and it was good.
