In light of the obviously invasive nature of an abortion procedure and the sordid history of regulatory violations by abortion clinics in Virginia, the Board of Health should retain and reinforce health and safety standards, not water them down. Abortion providers should be afforded no special dispensations for their "services," and the Commonwealth should apply the same scrutiny and standards upon such clinics as it does for any other surgical facility in the state. This is basic common sense.
