Unfortunately, there is a shortage of LVTs in the state of Virginia. We are blessed to have two excellent LVTs at our practice. However, many practices in Virginia don't have a LVT on staff. If an assistant is properly trained to place a IV cath and the procedure is only done so under the direction and authority of a licensed veterinarian, I think that patients and practices would benefit. The veterinarian is ultimately responsible for the outcome. I believe that the Board should strongly consider the proposed revision of this regulation.
