Governor McAuliffe last year instituted by executive action a gun carry ban in state agency buildings. This was a solution in search of a problem, which did not exist. It was pure politics and is an incorrect worldview in a nation with a solid and wonderful Second Amendmnet.
The overwhelming vast majority of us law-abiding gun owners and open and concealed carry citizens obey the law and are not involved in the thuggery and bad-actors who commit crime. Many of us are are members of the NRA and the VCDL. A reasonable search of the news shows that members of those organizations are not the ones committing gun crime. By definition, criminals don't obey the law anyway, and the frequent and repeat offenders are Liberals, not Conservatives, and they don't belong to august organizations such as the NRA and VCDL.
I frequently travel I-95 and I-81, and I carry concealed. If I need to use a Rest Stop, the current requirement is that I must disarm myself before going in to use the facilities. This puts me at increased risk in the new gun-free zones, plus it also increases the risk of a firearm incident merely in the unholstering and later reholstering of my gun, not only to me, but anyone else in the vehicle with me.
Please, allow common sense to prevail and roll back this onerous and illogical regulation. The danger and risk to Virginia and out-of-state citizens does not lie with the law-abiding concealed carry and open carry gun owners of the state. Instead, the danger lies with the criminal actors who don't obey gun laws anyway.
Cancel this nonsense.
