Gov. McAuliffe,
Please do not do this to your state employees and executive branch offices. Concealed carry permits are obtained by law-abiding citizens with a VSP background check and certification/training required by law prior to the locality granting the permit. Those seeking to hurt others with a handgun are not worried about breaking a law by carrying concealed in prohibited areas. This law unfairly stereotypes concealed carry permitees and state employees as ignorant, untrained, and unsafe and turns executive branch offices into soft targets instead of potentially protected areas. Based on Ex. Order 51 we already have a sign in our office window stating that concealed carry is prohibited. Nothing could make our office less safe. Please re-examine the intent and effect of this law. If you decide to ignore pleas and push this through, please apply this fairly and ask the crew cut gentlemen in navy blazers and dark sunglasses around you to comply as well or provide their services to your executive branch offices.
Thank you,
T. Fletcher
