Open carry has been legal in Virgina since 1607. It was a long-held belief that law-abiding colonists and later citizens had nothing to hide. As far as I can recall, open carry has been a non-issue for over 400 years. Why does the governor feel the need to fix what isn't broken? Second, he cited keeping Virginians safe and preventing mass shootings or something to that extent. Again, there have been no shootings in Virginia state buildings and certainly none by lawful carriers, open or concealed. As our right to bear arms is affirmed in Virginia's constitution, I believe that an individual governor or agency cannot and should not unilaterally issue regulation restricting this great right. If firearm legalities need to change, then they need to be legislated upon. Please stop this executive overreach. For the reasons stated above, I STRONGLY OPPOSE this gun control push.
