I strongly oppose this proposed regulation. It will serve only to make Virginians (and visitors) less safe. There had not been any problem with firearms in state buildings, and the hasty, intellectually dishonest way in which this regulation was introduced shows that it was motivated by the Governor's desire for political grandstanding rather than careful consideration for our rights and safety. Not only would people be unable to defend themselves at the DMV, highway rest stops, and other government buildings, they might need to leave their guns at home entirely if they don't have another safe place to leave them when visiting state buildings. This would disproportionately impact lower-income citizens and those who don't drive their own cars.
