Dry needling is a dangerous endeavor for PTs especially since they have NO training in needling the body. There are better options for "dry needling".......it's called ACUPUNCTURE. It is an already established, accredited, and licensed profession.......we do not need untrained PTs doing acupuncture. They have no training, no background, no understanding of what needles do and how they affect the brain.......a sharp rise in needling injuries has occured in unlicensed untrained PTs. Other states are banning the use..........do not make the mistake of allowing it only to have more injuries occur and then have to ban it. If a consumer wants "dry needling" what they are saying is they want "acupuncture".......Virginia has plenty of licensed acupuncturists to help the consumers. The board should be protecting the consumers from unlicenseed untrained professionals........DO NOT allow the citizens of Virginia to be injured by dumbness..........Virginia already has laws governing acupuncturists......PTs have no special ability or training in acupuncture in the pursuit of their license. If you require acupuncturists to be trained, require that of PTs.....make them go to the accredited acupuncture colleges and make them pass the test..........then as licensed "acupuncturists" they can needle legally and SAFELY whomever wants to get it from them........Do not let the PT profession take advantage of ignornance............those of us in the profession are trying to warn you.............take precaution........follow the law.
