I am urging the Board of Health to repeal the regulations that were voted in last year under the McDonnell/Cuccinelli administration. These regulations were passed, not for women's health concerns, but to inhibit women's access to pregnancy terminations. If the regulations were truly about women's health concerns, the regulations would not have targeted clinics that provide abortion services, but also those clinics that provide other services that are much more dangerous to women's health, such as oral surgery clinics and cosmetic surgery clinics. The idea that women's health clinics that provide abortions are more dangerous to women's health than other types of surgeries that are much more invasive and potentially injurious to women's health is offensive to citizens' intelligence. Please use common sense to provide access to the type of health care that women seek without prejudice to the political influence that is being imposed upon your Board. You are health care professionals who are aware of the health needs of your constituents, and the consequences of limiting access to these needs.
Thank you for your thoughtful and educated contemplation of the health needs of women across the state of Virginia.
