I support the Board of Health's decision to amend abortion clinic restrictions that are medically unnecessary and politically motivated. While it is certainly important to ensure patient health and safety in all of our medical facilities, there is no legitimate basis on which to single out or target abortion providers with additional or unique regulations. Abortion is already a safe and common medical procedure; the current restrictions only serve to make it less accessible and less affordable for women. I believe that the Board should follow the guidance of leading medical authorities, including the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, in addressing the inappropriate content and reach of these regulations.
