I oppose this action because i feel the current regulations cover supervision of students.I certainly understand that owners do not want incompetent individuals working I their pets. I certianly do not. Just because some one has a license does not necessarily make them competent or a student incompetent. I take my oath as a veterinarian to "do no harm" seriously. I am personally responsible for everyone that works at our hospital and every pet that is treated at our hospital.Every time a client comes to our hospital they are trusting their pet to my care. I take that trust very seriously and I would not allow someone I considered to be incompetent to work on my pet or my clients pets. I feel the regulation already requires owner consent for invasive procedures. With this new proposed regulation, if an owner declines can the student then not do a physical exam? How do we learn? I would rather train a student well under veterinary supervision than to wait until the individual is liscenced and does not "require" supervision!
