The veterinary technology program is extremely competitive and stressful as it is, adding yet more red tape for us to fight through is not going to help anything. For those pet parents who support this because they're scared of students working on or with your pet, ask yourselves: How do you think your veterinarian learned to do what they do? And please understand, a student will not be alone with your pet for any procedure. We will be under direct supervision of a professional, be it a DVM or a LVT, at all times. Enforcing this written consent, therefore making it more time-consuming for the cooperative clinic and difficult for students to get the practical hands-on experience we need, might not only discourage veterinarians from hosting students but it may also discourage people from pursuing the program altogether.
