This proposal would give vet students more opportunities for supervised learning experiences that would make them better animal medical care providers once they graduate school and are no longer supervised.  

Newly graduated veterinarians are expected to be proficient in all areas of veterinary medicine.  Veterinary students should have more opportunites for hands on learning under the direction and supervision of veterinarians with years of experience (and with the consent of animal owners).  This type of mentorship and hands on learning can ensure that future veterinarians have day one competency as vets, meeting the demand for excellent animal care that clients and pet owners demand and deserve.  

Because this proposal requires the consent of the pet owner and direct supervision of a lisenced veteriarian, I see this as a safe proposal that does not jeopardize the welfare or health of animals.  In addition, because the client must give concent, clients would also be able to decline care from a student if they felt uncomfortable.
