As a pet owner and animal lover I strongly urge this proposal be declined. There are no provisions on the procedures that can be performed by these students, and no reason for undereducated students to perform real procedures on animals before they've had proper training. It further disturbs and infuriates me that pet owners would potentially not be informed or sought for consent. It is traumatic enough already for animals who are used as teaching tools. Do not put them in further pain or danger by allowing undereducated students to perform procedures before their 4th year. Reform the 4th year curriculum instead.
