As a resident of southwestern Virginia, I have seen firsthand the impact Oxford Houses have had on my community. For people with substance use disorders, especially those with trauma in more clinical settings or behavioral healthcare, they have been lifesaving- there is a reason SAMHSA added the model to their Evidence-Based Programs and Practices list.
The best results do not always come from business. For people with substance use disorders, reclaiming autonomy and accountability is a path to recovery that clinical settings quite simply are not structured to offer. Please consider adjusting the language to allow these settings to continue providing the recovery spaces they do now.
