I am writing this as a current resident of an Oxford House, and i am asking you to seriously reconsider the proposed recovery residence regulations that would effectively force Oxford House to become staffed facilities.
Oxford house is not a treatment facility, it is not a halfway house, it is not a commercial recovery business. It is however a self governed home made up of people in recovery who have chosen to live together, support one another, hold one another accountable, and take responsibility for our lives. This distinction matters!
I currently live in a strong house, each member has helped me maintain my sobriety for over a year now. I could not have made it this far without the help of Oxford House and its members. We have no problems holding each other accountable and we also have no problems supporting one another in our recovery. We are at risk of losing our housing because of this matter. Oxford house has taught me many things, and I will be very upset if i lose this extremely valuable piece of my recovery and stability.
