I live in Oxford House - James Murphy in Richmond. Oxford Houses are democratically self-governing and self-supporting under the Oxford House system of operations. When I moved into Oxford House, I needed structure and support, and I found both in my housemates. Sharing responsibility for the house, like managing finances, keeping chores up, and making decisions together, rebuilt my confidence and gave me real skills for life outside. These people became my support system, and that's made all the difference in staying clean. I support rules that keep people safe, but rules that require staff or assume every home is a commercial business would keep Oxford Houses from operating in Virginia, even though research shows our model gets the best results. Please change those rules, and please clarify whether house members are considered the operator.
