My sister Anna uses a wheelchair, but she’s super independent. She knows what she wants, and she knows how to get people to help her. When my brother and I don’t complete a household task, Anna will take charge and do it herself. She needs help with a lot of things, but she still wants to be the one making decisions about her life.

She’s very excited about living at Vanguard Landing. She feels like she doesn’t get out of the house a whole lot now, and she’s excited to spend more time with friends and roommates, meet new people, and do more things herself.

She’s talked about going shopping, going to Target, and maybe finding a church in the area. She also wants family and friends to come visit her in her own home. Those are things Anna wants for her own life, and I want people to listen to her.

It makes me happy to hear her talk about it and see how excited she is. She’s always really positive when she talks about it.

Anna deserves to be independent like everybody else. Please allow her to use her Medicaid waiver-funded services at Vanguard Landing so she can have the support she needs in the home where she wants to live.
