When it comes down to the OPA legislation, none of us are particularly thrilled with it and honestly we oppose it completely. BUT now that the legislation is passed we at least need to have regulations set in place by the VA Board of Dentistry to ensure these new practices will be somewhat safe for our patients and their oral-systemic health. Please consider adopting strict standards and oversights through the board to protect our patients and society as a whole. If not, the public's health will be dramatically affected in a negative way. As hygienists, we will continue to tell the public to only seek care from a licensed dental hygienist so we can reduce the workload of these OPAs in the meantime.
