The RDH requires respected recognition for all that is in scope of this profession and as well as our hard work of successfully and professionally getting the proper education and training before even performing the task on humans initially to make sure safety and comfort of patients with standard of care are maintained during hygiene appointments. 
with all due respect to o Dentist who are emphasizing their modifications to allow dental assistants perform supragingival scaling (first of all there is always possibility of marginal subgingival calculus and biofilm involved) where soft tissue is involved; even using prophylaxis without scaling do requires removal of bacteria toxins from crowns of the teeth as well gingival margins. Therefore, on job training of dental assistants by dentist will put the reputation of dental hygienists at stake because patients might or might ask who is who when in for recall appointments assuming it’s a licensed hygienist, how many times the offices who choose assistants to do scaling will be honest and inform patients about what is happening and who is seeing them. Not whole lot will take the risk or time to give patients informed consent……I oppose this because what a dental assistant would do would affect the standard of care for dental hygienists in general.
