I’ll keep this pretty short and sweet. I’ve practiced dentistry in Richmond, Va for 28 years. I started my career as a young passionate dental assistant. I currently hold a CDA, RDH, BSDH. Which means I’m a licensed hygienist- as well as a dental assistant and still love them both! Make it so hygienist with doctors oversight have to train and certify the dental assistants clinically 1st- may be our only hope to help protect the public! A lot of damage can be done- and I can promise as a veteran in the field; the children- innocent children WILL take the brunt of it with this new law. Period. Others too; especially if you allow the wrong people to train. Periodontist and hygienists are trained to prevent harm. We should be doing the training and evaluation of clinical competency. Period!
