I am praying that this is not passed. Our patients deserve the right to know that they are being scaled by a trained Dental Hygienist not a dental assistant.  I for one do not want an untrained assistant scaling my teeth. I would be most uncomfortable and concerned as a patient. I will refuse any assistant scaling my teeth. Dental Hygienists are trained to scale below the gum line safely, the know how deep to go. I would be concerned about getting an infection, assistants are not trained in this area and I do not understand why it would be considered.
