We are writing in support of Vanguard Landing, as that our son for 15 years ( he is 25 now) has patiently and excitedly waited for this amazing community to come to life. He has very much told us that he wants to try living among his peers, and be as independent as he can.  Vanguard Landing seems to be the best fit for his needs, and as the guardians and family members of this wonderful young man, this model best aligns with his wants and best encompasses the support he would need to live as independently as possible.  He has helped prepare his own bedroom and bathroom with his furniture and decor that he selected with our help, and his eyes light up when we come to visit Vanguard Landing.  Its beautiful, clean, the bedrooms themselves are much larger than even the one he currently sleeps in at our home, bright and sunny, and the community is nestled in a vibrant part of Virginia Beach, everything he could want to enjoy is within blocks of the Vanguard Landing community of cottages and townhomes.  We didn't want to settle for something that was less than ideal for his level of needs, and for him (and us as well) this is the best use of any funds his waiver could cover.  We truly are grateful for this beautiful community of cottages and can't wait to see our son, B.C. , enter this exciting chapter in his life.  He deserves to have a rich social life, activities of his choosing (not to mention there are also scheduled activities all day he can partake of) for example can go to his Challenger League Baseball, go to church, go bowling, go to the park , the movies, the library, ride his bike, go get dinner with his friends, shop for his favorite figurines and activities at the local stores.  All of these are things he can do as a person who gets to decide where he spends his time. He can also enjoy his private room and bathroom when he wants to relax by himself and we want him to feel happy and secure in this new exciting place.  We believe in the mission of Vanguard Landing of providing exceptional experiences for exceptional people like our son.  Vanguard Landing is what he wants and we support his decision.  We love the city of Virginia Beach and feel especially blessed that Vanguard Landing is within 15 minutes of our home, it truly is a perfect situation for him and the family who love and support him and support his autonomy.
