We are writing in strong support for residents to be allowed to receive Medicaid waiver- funded services at Vanguard Landing.  As parents of an adult son with an intellectual disability, we are very concerned about how our son will live his life in adulthood.  We keep him as busy as possible, but we are not a community.  Since he graduated from high school, he no longer has a community.  The friends he had have moved on.  The opportunity for social outings has evaporated and the scarcity of supportive job coaches that enable him to work are non-existent.  As parents, we can’t offer the social, vocational, and community in which our son would thrive.  He wants to be as independent as possible in a place that provides the support he needs as well as abundant choices.  He wants to have friends again, social outings, a job, and a community where he feels he belongs.   We, and our son, have complete confidence, faith and trust in the staff and management of Vanguard Landing to provide this life for him.  He cannot achieve his dreams and live at Vanguard Landing without the use of his Medicaid Waiver funds.  Approving residents to use Medicaid waiver-funded services at Vanguard Landing opens a world of new possibilities for our adult that he, and we, can’t wait to happen!
