Statement of Opposition to Proposed Fee Increases

Our healthcare system is struggling to maintain itself. Nurses and providers at all levels are leaving public institutions and leaving their professions. Placing the Board's deficit burden on licensees at an increase of 60-70% is shameful. We all understand that costs increase over time, and small increases over the years may have been palatable, but this is egregious. Congratulations to the board members who have received 5% raises. Ask nurses what kind of raises they get. I personally have received exceptional performance reviews consistently for almost 20 years - but I don't get a 5% raise. The background document for this proposed change indicates years of declining revenue and increasing costs. If fees had been raised appropriately and incrementally since 2012, this regulation would be unnecessary. Instead the board wants to make their failure to plan our emergency. Absolutely not. I implore the board to seek legislative change that will allow funding sources that don't penalize the people providing care in the Commonwealth and potentially jeopardize our already crumbling healthcare system.
