Americans for Prosperity Virginia supports this prudent policy reform that will lower energy bills for consumers. Taxing reliable sources of energy during record inflation only hits the poorest Virginians the hardest. It makes all Virginians who are living paycheck to paycheck suffer a higher cost for a service that is essential to their quality of life. RGGI creates energy poverty. Studies show that energy poverty predominantly hits communities of color more than anyone else. It's essential that we provide relief to those most impacted by making energy more expensive through taxation. Furthermore, it denies Virginians of opportunities by creating perverse incentives for companies to do business in our neighboring states who did not sign on to RGGI because their overhead will be less expensive. This denies countless Virginians of opportunities to rise and earn a living.
Remove the tax. Withdrawal from RGGI. Give Virginians a break on their bills,
