Pet store regulation

I am glad to hear there is legislation regarding the regulation of pet stores being discussed. I'm writing because, while these changes are needed, they don't seem to be adequate or equal to the regulations set in place for animal shelters. For example, pet stores are not required to have a vet examine their animals, although they're usually coming from multiple puppy mills where disease runs rampant. This is not only dangerous for the animals but the general public. Also, pet stores do not face the same financial penalties as animal shelters when they violate legislation, resulting in very little motivation to follow requirements. I hope that these, and other inadequate issues regarding the regulation of pet stores will be taken into consideration. Thank you for your time.
