I support the modified SOLs for History and Social Studies as they present more balanced and enduring perspectives. History should connect across generations, and not be used to engineer social change in one generation (children) that is not readily recognized by other generations (parents and grand parents).
History and Social Studies should indeed encompass diverse perspectives, but to unify and not disunite. Previous VBOE SOL recommendations for History and Social Studies applied racial and equity lenses that judged instead of taught, and indoctrinated versus stimulated.
Please do not try to socially engineer a Woke society by indoctrinating our children, because all you will end up doing is undercutting support for the role of teachers and public education.
