Gold mining

Mining operations have been associated with multiple egregious environmental impacts. These include pollution of surrounding soils, water, and destruction of ecosystems. Virginia has an insufficient and extremely outdated regulatory system for mining operations. I oppose any gold mining operation approval until Virginia has adequately updated their regulatory system ensuring the protection of water, soil and ecosystems. It is critical to balance our need for gold versus the risks that mining causes for the community. There is no bauble worthy of nature's creation.
