Chapter Information
This action is exempt from the executive branch review process.
As stated in §29.1-521, §10, of the Code of Virginia, it is unlawful to possess, purchase, receive for transportation, or import at anytime or in any manner, any wild animal or the carcass or any part thereof except as specifically permitted by law. Section 1 allows a citizen the opportunity to legally possess furs purchased out of state prior to the open season, thus enabling recreational and economical opportunities. The conditions of shipping enables the agency to efficiently enforce the laws for legally taking our native wild fur-bearing populations for the benefit of all citizens. Section 2 allows the breeding, raising, selling and shipping of fur-bearing animals which, without this regulation, would be prohibited as per §29.1-512 of the Code of Virginia. Sections 3 and 4 under the authority of §29.1-413, of the Code of Virginia, enable this agency to efficiently protect our native wild fur-bearing species by providing a means for the legally permitted fur farming enterprises to sell and ship fur-bearing animals. Section 5 provides for the agency to inspect the fur farming facilities to protect the wild fur-bearing population from the possible introduction of disease and from possible genetic pollution for the benefit of all citizens.
