Action:
Emergency Regulations to Amend USBC Related to NFPA 13R Sprinkler Systems Requirements
Action 6750
General Information
| Action Summary |
This action is the result of a request received from the State Building Code Technical Review Board. Section 903.3.1.2 of the 2021 Virginia Construction Code (VCC) includes provisions regarding when a NFPA 13R sprinkler system is permitted to be installed in Group R occupancy buildings. The changes from the 2018 edition to the 2021 edition were intended to address podium buildings, however, it was recently discovered that these changes would also result in significant impacts on other Group R-2 and R-3 occupancy buildings. If unresolved, this issue would negatively impact residential construction by increasing costs and creating unnecessary delays. |
