I urge the Virginia Board of Health to reexamine it's lens on the necessity of blocking the rights of women and families who intend to access abortion and other reproductive health services. TRAP laws are exactly that, leading women into a trap where parenthood is not a choice but a mandate. Parenthood is too important a thing to be forced on anyone, whether they be single, married, or a victim of sexual assault. Women in every state including Virginia are being forced to choose between their livelihoods and the ability to plan their lives because of the restrictions being imposed on the health centers that serve them. Hospital services are unnecessary for over 99% of abortions, which are far safer medical procedures in terms of complications (per 1,000 procedures) than 40 weeks of pregnancy or childbirth, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Please listen to your constituents- we are literally begging you to allow us access to medical care.
