Parental notification of reading material choices does not mandate censorship; it simply gives parents authority over their own child(ren) in choices of literature. An alternate book could be offered that fulfils educational requirements but does not violate moral or ethical standards of the student or his/her family. Teachers/school boards are accountable to many government authorities; why can they not be equally accountable to parents?
