The ADA as well as the Academies for each dental specialty already have in place emergency preparation guidelines, CE courses, and requirements for how to handle emergencies in the dental office. All dentists are currently required to complete CPR, ACLS and/or PALS training which includes emergency preparedness/airway management. In addition to this training, there are also many CE courses available for dentists which also cover emergencies in the dental office and even include "SimMan" technology to help sharpen dentists cognitive skills and rescue techniques involving emergent scenerios. These courses are an important supplement to the courses already mandated by the ADA, and should not be a requirement for licensure.
