Description of Proposed Guidance Document Changes
The guidance document "Special Education in Local and Regional Jails: Guidelines for Best Practice" is designed to assist school divisions implement special education and related services to eligible inmates in local and regional jails in Virginia. The provision of educational services to inmates that increases their literacy and vocational aptitude enhances the possibility that they will successfully re-enter society following release from incarceration. The proposed revisions offer changes pertaining to universal precautions to include considerations during extended school or facility closures, as well as edits and changes to formatting.
